A dive into non exercise activity thermogenesis

Hey y'all!! Today we're gonna be cracking into non exercise activity thermogenesis(NEAT). So, what is NEAT? You, for being here lol. NEAT is how we expend energy throughout the day; that ISN'T through sleeping, eating, and structured exercise. Basically it's how much, or how little activity we have in our day to day life. NEAT has a huge impact on daily calorie expenditure; I'm talking a huge % of our daily calorie expenditure. If you don't exercise NEAT is how your expending most of your calories. If you do exercise NEAT is still expending more calories than your 30-60 minute exercise.

I can't stress enough how important NEAT is, and when you see the results for yourself you'll see why. NEAT is one of our most powerful weapons when it comes to maintaining the body we want, or getting to the one you want.

We're gonna get into some examples of NEAT, and some potential strats we can use to get more NEAT in our day to day lives. As always my goal is to empower y'all with the skills and knowledge to succeed. So, lets get into it, starting with some examples of NEAT.

Like I said, NEAT is everything we do outside of sleeping, eating, and structured exercise. That leaves a lot of things to cover, and we probably won't cover all of them, but hopefully it will get the gears turning.

The core thing to think about when it comes to NEAT is switching out sedentary habits for more active ones. So, this could be using a standing desk over a normal setup. It could be getting up and moving around in between episodes on T.V. Walking around when your watching videos on your phone. Parking farther away from entrances to stores, getting a few more steps in. Taking stairs whenever you have the chance. Even things like cooking, cleaning, and other chores around the house. Things like fidgeting, and random stuff like that make a difference too.

The true power is in the sum of all these little things. A few calories here, a few calories there really add up over the course of the day. Any chance you have to move a little bit more, take it. If you listen to metal like I do, head bang homie. That's a calorie or two right there, just from jamming. There are just endless examples of how we can be just a bit more active throughout the day. The trick is finding out what realistically works for you, and your unique life. Maybe one of the harder parts about NEAT is creating these new habits, and adopting the mindset of moving more.

I would say take a second to think about your day to day life, and think about where can I honestly get a bit more movement in. We all have certain opportunities and limitations, but the key part is we all of opportunities for more NEAT. That's kinda the beauty of NEAT, it's super accessible for everyone. We can have a serious impact on our health and fitness goals, without even exercising. Imagine people asking you what you did to get to where your at, and your just like "I moved more."; of course we should all make time for exercise, because it brings it's on unique perks, but something is better than nothing. If you do exercise and add in more NEAT, that's like compound interest. NEAT is such a powerful asset no matter which way you look at it. Don't write this off and sleep on something that could be a total game changer, no matter where you are on your health and fitness journey.

Congrats y'all!! You made it through another article, and are that much better for it! I'd like to leave y'all with a personal challenge this time. Think of just one area in your life where you could add more NEAT, and do it. Hopefully this article was helpful to you in some way, and if not R.I.P. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or whatever, my email is all over the website. Until next time y'all, peace!
